About ONEDAY in Peace and the Millennium Meal Projects

More about the ONE DAY in Peace Campaign

ONE DAY was founded in January 1994 by a group of committed high school students. These students set out to create a project that would have global impact, empower and give hope to young people. First designed as an educational tool to teach these students how to express their passion, the result was far more inspirational than expected. From this work, the ONE DAY Foundation was created.

Our mission was two-fold:
1. To create ONE DAY, 24 hours, of world peace,
2. To provide young people a platform from which their voices can be heard

After celebrating ONE DAY in Peace, January 1, 2000, the ONE DAY Foundation focused its support on the Global Youth ACTION Network (GYAN). GYAN is a collaborative effort among youth and youth-serving organizations to share information, resources and solutions to promote greater youth engagement. The GYAN creates the opportunity for every young person to be heard, leverages their voices to impact national and global agendas and provides tools, recognition and financial support for young people who take positive action to improve our world - community by community.

On December 15, 2000, the US Congress unanimously adopted the ONE DAY Initiative S.Con. Res. 138. On January 4, 2001, President Bill Clinton signed this Resolution and January 1 of every year is now a national holiday.

The One Day Foundation is developing programs to promote the new ONE DAY in Peace and Millennium Meal Holiday. We will be working with young people in elementary and high schools throughout the country. If you or your group is interested in being a part of the campaign to push forward this amazing new opportunity to promote peace, please contact us at: info@oneday.org

The ONE DAY Foundation is an Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the United Nations.
